Tel Aviv [Israel], January 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday said Israel and Germany are “natural partners” in addressing emerging security challenges, as he and visiting German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt signed a joint declaration to deepen cooperation in the fields of security, cybersecurity, and the fight against terrorism.
The agreement was signed during Minister Dobrindt’s official visit to Israel.
In a post on X, Netanyahu said he attached enormous importance to overall cooperation between Israel and Germany, particularly in the area of cybersecurity, which he described as one of the main threats to internal security and critical infrastructure.
Netanyahu added that the two nations have already worked together on several major defense and technology initiatives. He said Israel and Germany had cooperated on the Arrow III missile defense system and in many other technological areas, and noted that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had recently visited Israel, during which defense cooperation was discussed.
The prime minister said he was pleased to welcome Minister Dobrindt to Israel to sign what he described as an important pact, thanking him for his friendship and support and asking that this be conveyed to the German government.
Netanyahu said Iran and its proxies, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis, pose a threat not only to Israel but also to regional stability and international security, The Times of Israel reported.
He said the declaration anchors Germany’s deep commitment to the security of the State of Israel and elevates security and technological cooperation between the two countries to a new strategic level. He added that the agreement reflects Germany’s historical responsibility in the wake of the Holocaust, The Times of Israel reported.
