Tel Aviv [Israel], June 23 (ANI): In a critical line of defense amid escalating regional tensions, Israel is deploying cutting-edge electronic warfare to intercept Iranian drones targeting its territory, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Monday.
Soldiers from the Spectrum Warfare 5114th Battalion, a specialized unit under the IDF’s J6 and Cyber Defence Directorate, have successfully thwarted dozens of attempted incursions by hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over recent days. The battalion plays a key role in neutralizing threats from Iranian drones launched directly from Iranian soil.
“The UAVs arrive from Iranian territory, and we help intercept them on an ongoing basis,” said Lt. Col. B, commander of the 5114th Battalion. “Every UAV we manage to stop helps protect our civilians and strategic assets.”
Utilizing real-time detection and disruption technologies, the battalion is part of a layered Israeli aerial defense architecture, which includes kinetic missile interception systems and advanced cyber-electromagnetic measures. The IDF emphasized that spectrum warfare continues to be a vital tool in protecting Israeli skies from incoming threats.
Spectrum warfare involves using the electromagnetic spectrum—such as radio waves, microwaves, and infrared signals—for military purposes, including detection, jamming, deception, and destruction of enemy communication and control systems.
According to military assessments, Iran has launched more than 1,000 drones during the recent escalation. Missile attacks by Iran have killed 24 people and left over 1,300 injured, prompting over 25,000 claims to the Israel Tax Authority for property damage.
The drone and missile barrage follows a dramatic Israeli military operation on June 13, when preemptive strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities. Israeli defense officials stated that Tehran had reached a “point of no return” in its pursuit of nuclear weapons, possessing the capacity to rapidly enrich uranium and assemble up to 15 nuclear devices.
Israeli intelligence also revealed the existence of a covert Iranian program aimed at finalizing all components required for a deployable nuclear weapon. The strikes were described by officials as part of a broader campaign to counter Iran’s multi-pronged strategy, which they claim combines nuclear proliferation, ballistic missile expansion, and proxy warfare.
As the threat from Iran evolves, Israel’s reliance on technological superiority—including cyber and electromagnetic defenses—remains a cornerstone of its national security policy. The IDF reiterated its commitment to continuing operations that ensure civilian safety and strategic deterrence in the face of growing hostilities. (ANI/TPS)
