Tel Aviv, December 18 (ANI/TPS): Israeli authorities have arrested two residents of northern Israel on suspicion of involvement with the Islamic State terror group, the Israel Security Agency, or Shin Bet, and Israel Police announced on Wednesday.
Those arrested in recent weeks include 20-year-old Kinan Azaiza from the Nazareth-area town of Daburiyya and another resident of the northern city of Akko.
According to authorities, both suspects were believed to have been in contact with foreign ISIS operatives and were preparing to travel illegally abroad to undergo terrorist training. Officials said the individuals had taken concrete steps to carry out security-related activities on behalf of the organization.
During questioning, investigators determined that Azaiza had sworn allegiance to ISIS, expressed a willingness to conduct security operations, and had considered targeting Israeli soldiers. He was also found to have communicated with foreign ISIS elements, learned how to manufacture explosives, and planned to travel overseas for further training.
Officials noted that the arrests come amid heightened concerns over ISIS-inspired activity in Israel and a rise in involvement by Israeli Arabs in terrorism, particularly in the context of the ongoing war.
Following the investigation, the Northern District Attorney’s Office is expected to file an indictment against Azaiza in the Nazareth District Court.
