Tel Aviv [Israel], June 30 (ANI/TPS): Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have announced the destruction of a Hamas terror tunnel discovered beneath a school building in the Khan Yunis region of southern Gaza.
The operation, carried out over recent weeks, involved the IDF’s 188th Armored Brigade Combat Team in coordination with the elite Yahalom (Diamond) Combat Engineers Special Forces Unit. The tunnel was located under a building that formerly housed the “Ma’an” school and extended approximately two kilometers (1.24 miles) in length and reached a depth of about 20 meters (65.6 feet).
According to the IDF, the tunnel was used by Hamas for military operations and as a space for extended stays. It was part of a broader network of underground infrastructure the terrorist group has embedded in civilian areas.
As part of the operation, the IDF—working in cooperation with the Israeli Air Force—also conducted strikes on numerous military targets in the area. These efforts resulted in the destruction of hundreds of Hamas military installations, the elimination of dozens of terrorists, and the recovery of various weapons.
The IDF emphasized that the operation demonstrates Hamas’ ongoing use of civilian infrastructure for terrorist purposes, further highlighting the complexity of military operations in densely populated areas like Gaza. (ANI/TPS)
