Tel Aviv [Israel], June 19 (ANI/TPS): Israeli President Isaac Herzog has condemned the Iranian missile strike on Soroka Hospital in Beer-Sheva as a “war crime”, following his visit to the site on Thursday morning.
Addressing the media from the hospital grounds, President Herzog was accompanied by Prof. Shlomi Kodesh, Director of Soroka Hospital, alongside doctors, nurses, patients, and civilians from various communities across the Negev region, including Jews, Muslims, and Arabs.
“We stood together and looked at the destruction and devastation caused by an Iranian missile fired indiscriminately with the sole intention to take innocent lives in a hospital,” Herzog stated solemnly. “This is a war crime!”
The president emphasized the dual narrative unfolding from the attack, noting both the “face of evil and terror spread by the Ayatollahs in Tehran” and the resilience of Israeli society in the face of adversity.
“We see the resilience and strength of Israeli society, united in our desire to see all the peoples of this region live in peace,” Herzog added, underscoring the spirit of solidarity among Israelis of all backgrounds in the aftermath of the attack.
Soroka Hospital, located in southern Israel, serves over one million people, including Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Bedouins. It was directly hit by an Iranian ballistic missile in the early hours of Thursday amid heightened tensions in the region, drawing strong international condemnation and calls for accountability.
The strike is part of an escalating conflict in which Iran has launched over 450 ballistic missiles and hundreds of UAVs toward Israel in recent days, prompting Israeli defensive and retaliatory measures. (ANI/TPS)
