New Delhi [India], August 23 (ANI): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Saturday unveiled the model of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) in Delhi on the occasion of National Space Day. ISRO aims to launch the first module of the project by 2028, with the full station expected to become operational by 2035.
The BAS will serve as a significant platform for indigenous research, including microgravity studies and testing technologies for long-duration human space missions. India’s move to establish its own orbital laboratory marks a major leap in its space program and strengthens its position as a global leader in space exploration.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan emphasized that by 2035, India will establish the Bharatiya Antariksh Station, with its first module scheduled for launch in 2028. He also announced that India will land on the Moon by 2040, aiming to elevate the nation’s space program to the forefront of global exploration.
“Based on this vision, we are going to have a Chandrayaan-4 mission, a Venus Orbiter Mission, and the Bharatiya Antariksh Station by 2035, with the first module to be launched in 2028. The Prime Minister has also given approval for the Next Generation Launcher. By 2040, India will land on the Moon and bring back samples safely. By then, the Indian space program will stand at par with any other in the world,” Narayanan said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while virtually addressing the event, recalled the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, noting that India created history by becoming the first country to reach the South Pole of the Moon.
“Achieving new milestones one after another in the space sector has become the nature of India and Indian scientists. Just two years ago, India made history by reaching the South Pole of the Moon,” PM Modi said.
He also praised the success of the Axiom-4 mission, highlighting that Group Captain Shubanshu Shukla filled India with pride by hoisting the tricolor at the International Space Station.
Referring to his meeting with Shukla, the Prime Minister underlined the immense courage and limitless dreams of India’s youth. “We have also become the fourth country in the world to have the capability of docking and undocking in space. Just three days ago, I met Group Captain Shubanshu Shukla. He filled every Indian with pride by hoisting the tricolor on the International Space Station. The moment he showed me the tricolor was beyond words. In my discussion with him, I witnessed the immense courage and infinite dreams of the youth of new India,” PM Modi said. (ANI)
