New Delhi [India], April 14 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Sunday sharply criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, accusing it of using “intimidation, smear, and threats” against Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa following his explosive “50 bombs” remark.
Reacting to the Punjab Police Counter-Intelligence team questioning Bajwa at his residence, Ramesh labelled Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as “a bundle of insecurity and incompetence” and claimed that the AAP leadership was “rattled.”
“Instead of taking the warning seriously, the Chief Minister of Punjab accused Mr. Bajwa—who has lost family to terrorism—of links with terrorist groups. A counter-intelligence team was sent to Mr. Bajwa’s residence, and cases have now been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023,” Ramesh said in a post on X.
He further stated, “Clearly, the Punjab Chief Minister and the corrupt AAP leadership are rattled and are resorting to intimidation, smear, and threats. It will not work.”
Continuing his criticism, Ramesh asserted that governance in Punjab has “completely collapsed” and reiterated that the Congress party would not be silenced. “The Indian National Congress will continue to raise the concerns of the people forcefully,” he added.
The controversy stems from Bajwa’s recent statement where he alleged that 50 bombs had entered Punjab, with 18 already having exploded and 32 still pending. “I gave a statement to a TV channel that my sources have warned me that several bombs have come to Punjab… My source told me I should stay aware since my family has already been a victim of terrorism,” Bajwa told reporters.
The Punjab Police has reportedly initiated legal proceedings against Bajwa under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, based on the seriousness of his claims. (ANI)
