
Sendai [Japan], August 30 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day visit to Japan on Saturday, describing it as “productive” and highlighting the positive outcomes achieved during his engagements. He expressed gratitude to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for the warmth extended to him during the visit.
In a post on X, he said: “This visit to Japan will be remembered for the productive outcomes which will benefit the people of our nations. I thank PM Ishiba, the Japanese people and the Government for their warmth.”
This was PM Modi’s eighth visit to Japan since taking office in 2014, marking another milestone in India-Japan relations. He and PM Ishiba reviewed the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries, focusing on defense, security, trade, economy, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.
Japan announced a decade-long investment plan worth $68 billion in India, with discussions also covering cooperation in critical areas such as semiconductors, rare earths, and clean energy. The two leaders explored Tokyo’s participation in India’s bullet train project, including the possible procurement of E10 bullet trains for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail.
During the visit, PM Modi and PM Ishiba toured a semiconductor factory in Sendai, where they discussed potential collaboration in semiconductor manufacturing and supply chains. Modi also attended a luncheon with Miyagi Prefecture Governor Murai, JR East Chairman Fukazawa, Tokyo Electron President Kawai, and Tohoku University President Tomunaga. Ishiba was also present at the event.
In a post on X, Ishiba said: “A luncheon welcoming the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture, Murai, the Chairman of JR East, Fukazawa, the President of Tokyo Electron, Kawai, and the President of Tohoku University, Tomunaga.”
Earlier on Saturday morning, PM Modi arrived in Sendai, where he was warmly welcomed by locals and members of the Indian community. People from all walks of life cheered with chants of “Welcome to Japan, Modi San!” Modi greeted them with equal warmth and interacted with children who had lined up to welcome him.
The Japanese prime minister accompanied PM Modi on a bullet train ride to Sendai. Before departure, Modi greeted Indian train drivers currently training at JR East. Ishiba shared the moment on X, posting: “Greetings with the Indian train drivers currently training at JR East.”
PM Modi’s itinerary in Sendai included visits to key industrial facilities such as a semiconductor plant and a bullet train coach manufacturing site. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the joint train journey by both leaders symbolized the warmth of India-Japan friendship.
The visit was part of the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Ishiba. (ANI)
