Philadelphia [US], April 25 (ANI): Jason Isaacson, Chief Policy and Political Affairs Officer of the American Jewish Committee, on Friday condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a “brutal” and “horrific” assault, while drawing parallels with the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel.
Isaacson remarked that the Pahalgam attack, which targeted vacationing tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, had “echoes” of the attack by Hamas that killed over 1,200 people and took over 200 hostages in a coordinated assault on Southern Israel. Reflecting on the emotional impact, Isaacson noted, “The massacre of 7th October 2023 by Hamas was brutal and it has left a very deep scar… That attack echoes in my mind as I see what has happened in Jammu & Kashmir. It was a brutal and horrific attack on people vacationing and singling them out as Hindus. A terrorist act which has shaken India to the core. It has also horrified people worldwide.”
He further emphasized the similarities in the tactics of Hamas and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in targeting civilians based on their religious identity. “Their motivation is to identify others as evil,” Isaacson stated, drawing attention to the genocidal mentality of such terror groups. He also noted that these motivations were not unique to Hamas but were shared by other groups, including those targeting Hindus.
Isaacson expressed full support for India’s efforts to eliminate terrorism, reiterating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the complete backing of the global community, including the United States, in the fight against terrorism. “PM Modi has pledged to root out these terrorists, and he has the full support of my country and other friends of India around the world,” he said.
He further suggested that Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam attack could not be ruled out, as terror groups often operate with funding and support from elements within Pakistani society, military, or intelligence services. “It doesn’t take too large a stretch of an imagination to think that if no funding or support for this movement is provided by the elements within the Pakistani society, or military, or intelligence services, if such a force can operate that has a clear motivation to drive India out,” Jason Isaacson remarked.
The Pahalgam attack, which took place on April 22, saw terrorists target tourists at Baisaran meadow, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, while injuring several others. This attack is one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama strike, which resulted in the deaths of 40 CRPF personnel. (ANI)
