Washington, D.C. [US], August 29 (ANI): United States Vice President JD Vance on Thursday suggested that he is prepared to assume the presidency if a “tragedy” were to occur, USA Today reported.
Vance, 41, one of the youngest vice presidents in US history, told the outlet that his role has equipped him to step into President Donald Trump’s position if needed.
“God forbid there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days,” Vance said, while stressing that Trump remains in “incredibly good health” and that he expects him to serve a full term.
Earlier this month, Trump said Vance is the most likely heir to his “Make America Great Again” movement. However, Vance dismissed speculation about a possible 2028 presidential run.
“My wife, Usha, and I are focused on the job I have right now. And if that door opens later on, we’ll figure it out then,” he said.
Reflecting on his first visit to the Oval Office in January, Vance described being struck by its history and atmosphere.
“It was an amazing thing. I was overwhelmed by the grandeur of the office, all of the incredible history that had been made,” Vance recalled. “But if I was being honest, it was the middle of winter, the drapes were closed. It was very dark. It had kind of a dark and gloomy feeling. This is the workplace of the leader of the free world. It should be a little brighter. I like what the president has done to it,” he told USA Today.
On August 6, Trump also told reporters that Vance is “most likely” the heir apparent to the MAGA movement, CNN reported. The president added that he could envision Vance joining forces with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on a future Republican ticket.
“Well, I think most likely,” Trump said when asked about Vance being MAGA’s successor. “In all fairness, he’s the vice president.”
“I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form,” Trump added. “I also think we have incredible people, some of the people on the stage right here.” (ANI)
