New Delhi [India], September 24 (ANI): Jordan is seeking to strengthen economic cooperation with India by inviting investments in high-growth sectors such as information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI), pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and green energy, said Youssef Abdelghani, Jordan’s Ambassador to India.
Speaking to ANI, Abdelghani described the relationship between India and Jordan as rooted in “mutual respect and shared values,” built on decades of diplomatic engagement. “Our bilateral trade exceeds USD 3 billion per year. We have more than USD 3 billion in Indian investments in Jordan. We have very strong, solid relations in terms of economy and trade,” he noted.
Highlighting opportunities for partnership, the ambassador said, “We are looking to attract Indian investors in the fields of IT, AI, the pharmaceutical industry, renewable energy, and green energy. We can have joint ventures in this field.” He described the prospects for cooperation as “promising” and expected to expand further.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India and Jordan share a strong relationship anchored in a shared vision. Bilateral trade reached USD 2.8 billion in 2023–24, making India Jordan’s fourth-largest trading partner. Diplomatic ties between the two nations date back to 1950, formalised following a bilateral agreement for cooperation signed in 1947.
Earlier this year, in April, India and Jordan held the Foreign Office Consultation (FoC) in Amman, chaired by Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport & Visa; Overseas Indian Affairs), and Majed T. Qatarneh, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jordan. The meeting reviewed bilateral relations in depth and explored avenues for expanding cooperation in political-security, economic, developmental, and people-to-people sectors.
Abdelghani also noted the success of the India-Jordan Centre for Excellence in IT at Al-Hussein Technical University in Amman, established with India’s support, as an example of fruitful collaboration. The ambassador expressed confidence that the growing partnership would open new avenues for trade, investment, and technological exchange. (ANI)
