Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 8 (ANI): Uganda’s long-distance titan Joshua Cheptegei will lead a stellar men’s field at the World 10K Bengaluru 2025, scheduled for April 27. The prestigious World Athletics Gold Label race has once again attracted a world-class contingent, including multiple global medalists and record-setters.
Cheptegei, a multiple-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist, holds a personal best of 26:11—a time significantly faster than the event record of 27:38, set by Kenya’s Nicholas Kimeli in 2022. The Ugandan finished runner-up in Bengaluru back in 2014 and now returns to conquer the title.
He’ll face stiff competition from fellow Ugandan Stephen Kissa (PB 27:13), a bronze medallist at the 2020 Delhi Half-Marathon, and Kenya’s Vincent Langat, who clocked an impressive 26:55 earlier this year in Valencia. Other contenders include Ethiopia’s Nibret Kinde, Dennis Kipkurui of Kenya, Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay, and naturalized Norwegian runner Awet Nftalem Kibrab.
The women’s field is equally formidable, with seven runners boasting personal bests faster than the event record of 30:35, held by Kenya’s Irene Cheptai since 2022. Leading the charge is Cintia Chepngeno of Kenya (PB 30:08), who comes into the race fresh off a silver medal performance at the Macau 10K.
Joining her are top East African talents: Eritrea’s Rahel Daniel (30:12.15), Uganda’s Sarah Chelangat, and Ethiopia’s rising star Asmarech Anley. Also in the mix are Kenya’s Gladys Kwamboka Mong’are, the reigning African 10,000m champion, and Maureen Jemutai, Miriam Chepkoech, and Nelvin Chepkemboi—all with sub-30:35 performances.
Adding international flair are Abeba Aregawi, the former Ethiopian now representing Sweden, and Transfora Mussa from Tanzania.
With a total prize purse of USD 210,000, the 2025 edition of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru is set to be one of the most competitive in recent history, offering athletes both prestige and prize on the roads of Karnataka’s capital.
