
New Delhi [India], April 3 (ANI): Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, expressed satisfaction over its passage in the Lok Sabha, stating that the bill would benefit everyone.
Following a 12-hour debate, Pal said,
“The whole country saw how the debate took place. We are satisfied that the government agreed to all the recommendations proposed by the JPC. Everyone will benefit from this bill now.”
Political Reactions & Opposition Protests
The bill, which passed in Lok Sabha late Wednesday night, will be tabled in Rajya Sabha today, with Union Minister JP Nadda addressing the House at 1 PM.
- BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal accused the opposition of trying to create division based on faith, reiterating Amit Shah’s assurance that the government has no intention of interfering in religious affairs.
- Congress MP & JPC Member Imran Masood called it a “black day,” claiming the bill attacks minority rights, and vowed to challenge it in court.
Bill’s Passage & Implications
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 was passed by a vote of 288-232, after fierce debate between the BJP-led government and the INDIA bloc opposition.
The government introduced the revised bill after incorporating JPC recommendations, aiming to:

✅ Enhance transparency & efficiency in Waqf boards
✅ Introduce technology in Waqf record-keeping
With the Rajya Sabha debate scheduled today, the bill continues to be at the center of a political storm.
