Berlin [Germany], June 28 (ANI): Shafi Burfat, Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), issued a scathing statement from Germany denouncing Pakistan as a “fascist military regime” that disguises itself under the illusion of democracy. In a strongly worded message, Burfat warned the international community against what he called a deceptive political framework designed to benefit a Punjabi-dominated military elite at the expense of historic nations within Pakistan.
Burfat asserted that Pakistan’s parliamentary system is not genuinely democratic but rather a “carefully crafted deception” in which minority regimes are propped up as puppets of the military. He accused the establishment of marginalizing genuine political forces and maintaining authoritarian control under the guise of civilian rule.
He further argued that the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan entrenches injustice by subjugating historic nations—including Sindhis, Baloch, and Pashtuns—under a centralized system dominated by Punjab. According to Burfat, the very foundation of the state rests not on democratic values, but on “religious theocracy, deceit, and fraudulent nationalism.”
Burfat drew historical parallels to the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, recalling that when Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, representing the majority Bengali population, won the national elections, the Pakistani military responded with brutal repression instead of respecting the democratic mandate. “Nearly 3 million Bengalis were killed simply because they demanded democratic governance,” Burfat said, calling it a stark example of Pakistan’s authoritarianism and rejection of democracy.
He claimed that the Punjabi group—constituting around 55% of the population—continues to dominate every aspect of governance. He stated that approximately 80% of the Pakistani military is composed of Punjabis who allegedly monopolize national resources and actively work to suppress the political and cultural identities of other historic nations.
Under what he termed an “oppressive system,” Burfat warned that the only options left to these historic nations are political extinction or organized struggle for self-determination. He called on Sindhis, Baloch, and others to resist and make the “immense sacrifices necessary” for liberation, likening their struggle to that of the Bengalis.
Burfat also alleged that the Pakistani military, often described as one of the most corrupt in the world, acts as a mercenary force for foreign powers, selling national dignity for financial aid. “It is not a protector of the people but a profiteering institution trading sovereignty for dollars,” he said.
He concluded by urging the international community, civil society, and global thought leaders to recognize the plight of the oppressed nations within Pakistan and stand in solidarity with their struggles for justice and freedom. “Liberating these historic nations from this fascist, unnatural entity is the most urgent democratic task in the region,” Burfat asserted.
