New Delhi [India], December 29 (ANI): The Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT) achieved a cumulative annual cargo handling of 78,06,220 metric tonnes (MTs), surpassing last year’s record of 77,58,498 MTs, according to an official statement by the Deendayal Port Authority on Monday. The milestone was reached an impressive three months and nine days ahead of schedule, reflecting the terminal’s operational efficiency and sustained momentum.
The statement highlighted that the achievement underscores KICT’s commitment to operational excellence and its contribution to India’s growing maritime trade.
In a related development, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) recently issued operational guidelines for two major shipbuilding initiatives: the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme (SBFAS) and the Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS). These initiatives aim to enhance India’s domestic shipbuilding capacity, improve global competitiveness, and promote employment across the maritime value chain.
The SBFAS, with a corpus of Rs 24,736 crore, provides financial support ranging from 15–25% per vessel depending on the category, with incentives linked to series orders and milestone-based disbursement backed by security instruments.
The SbDS, with an outlay of Rs 19,989 crore, focuses on long-term capability creation through the development of greenfield shipbuilding clusters, modernization of existing shipyards, and the establishment of an India Ship Technology Centre under the Indian Maritime University to support research, design, innovation, and skill development.
Together, these measures aim to strengthen India’s shipbuilding ecosystem, support the Make in India initiative, and reinforce the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
