New Delhi [India], April 14 (ANI): Former Indian cricket captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth has lauded Karun Nair’s inspiring comeback story, calling it a “story for the ages” and a powerful reminder to young cricketers about the value of letting their performances speak for themselves. Nair’s long-awaited opportunity arrived during the ongoing IPL 2025 season, and he seized it in style with a blistering knock.
In his first appearance since the 2022 season, Karun Nair finally got a chance to showcase his batting skills during the IPL 2025 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Nair, who had openly expressed his desire for another chance in December 2022, delivered a sensational 89 runs from just 40 balls in Delhi’s chase of a challenging 206-run target.
Nair’s performance was a spectacle, especially against the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, whom he dispatched all around the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Even though DC ultimately fell short by 12 runs, Nair’s performance was a standout, reminding fans and experts alike that he still has plenty to offer.
Srikkanth’s Praise: “What a fabulous knock by Karun Nair, what a comeback, and he completely deserves all the love and praise coming his way! What a story for the ages. Any youngster reading this, the only way to come back is by talking with the bat!” Srikkanth wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Nair’s innings included a barrage of powerful shots, including several boundaries and sixes, even as he faced the top-tier MI bowling attack. His 89-run knock ended a 2520-day wait for his last IPL fifty, showcasing his ability to dominate even the best bowlers like Trent Boult and Bumrah.
Nair’s ability to read Bumrah’s pace variations was especially impressive during a six-ball sequence in the final over of the powerplay, where he accumulated 18 runs off the over, including two sixes and three boundaries, much to the dismay of Bumrah.
While the match ended in a 12-run defeat for Delhi, Karun Nair’s performance has once again proven that he remains a force to be reckoned with in IPL cricket. His journey serves as a beacon of hope for cricketers fighting to make a comeback and make their mark in the league.
