
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], April 27 (ANI): Former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Kasturirangan, who passed away at the age of 84, was cremated with state honours on Sunday in Bengaluru. The visionary scientist, who made significant contributions to India’s space program, was remembered by prominent figures, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah, who paid his last respects.
“The demise of Dr. Kasturirangan is an irreparable loss for the country. He was a renowned scientist and made immense contributions to India’s space program. His work also benefitted Karnataka, and it is our duty to remember him,” Chief Minister Siddaramiah said during his tribute.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the late scientist in the 121st episode of Mann Ki Baat. PM Modi acknowledged Kasturirangan’s role in transforming ISRO into a globally recognized space agency and highlighted the numerous satellites launched under his leadership.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot expressed his sorrow, praising Kasturirangan as a great scholar who played a pivotal role in space research. “He was a great scientist and scholar. As ISRO Chairman, he was instrumental in shaping space research and national projects,” said Gehlot.
Former ISRO Chairman K Sivan also mourned his loss, noting that Kasturirangan’s contributions extended beyond space programs. “His leadership saw the launch of PSLV, GSLV, and many key satellites,” Sivan remarked.
Dr. Kasturirangan passed away on April 25, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable achievements in science and education. (ANI)
