Kochi [Kerala], December 19 (ANI): Kerala’s Southern Range Inspector General of Police, Shyam Sunder, has ordered the immediate suspension of Circle Inspector K.G. Prathapachandran after CCTV footage surfaced showing the assault of a pregnant woman inside a police station in 2024, when he was serving as the Station House Officer (SHO) at the Ernakulam North Police Station.
The incident forming the basis of the complaint took place last year during Prathapachandran’s tenure as SHO at the Ernakulam North Police Station. He is currently posted as Circle Inspector at Aroor.
The CCTV footage, which reportedly captures the young woman being assaulted inside the police station, was handed over to the complainants following a directive from the Kerala High Court.
After the visuals became public and sparked widespread outrage, authorities initiated disciplinary action. Southern Range IG Shyam Sunder ordered Prathapachandran’s suspension pending an inquiry into the incident.
An official investigation into the alleged assault at the police station is currently underway, and Prathapachandran will remain under suspension until the inquiry is completed.
