Kozhikode (Kerala) [India], January 1 (ANI): Kerala Police on Thursday arrested three individuals for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 9 lakh through a fraudulent gold sale scheme in Kozhikode district.
The accused have been identified as Jamshad (29) of Thoniparambil, Marampally, Aluva; Neenu Benny (29) of Chakkalapalmi, Mannarakkayam, Kanjirapally, Kannur district; and KA Noushad (45). Police also recovered Rs 15,000 from their possession.
The arrests were carried out under the supervision of Erumeli Station House Officer ED Biju. According to officials, the incident occurred on December 24 near a financial institution on Erumeli Private Bus Stand Road. The victim, a resident of Paloorkkavu, Mundakkayam, was approached by Neenu Benny, who falsely claimed she needed help selling pledged gold at the institution for medical treatment.
Police said Neenu coordinated with the victim over the phone and later arrived wearing a veil. While the victim waited on the ground floor, Neenu allegedly escaped through another exit. CCTV footage from nearby areas showed a veiled woman riding away on a motorcycle. Subsequent investigation and technical analysis led to the identification and arrest of all three accused, revealing that the crime was pre-planned and coordinated.
Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious of similar financial scams and to verify credentials before conducting transactions with unknown individuals. (ANI)
