Colombo [Sri Lanka], December 7 (ANI): The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka on Sunday said that following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, the island nation is recovering and is ready to welcome Indian tourists, who form the largest group of visitors to Sri Lanka. The High Commission noted that key roads and travel routes are now accessible, easing movement across the country.
India’s rescue and relief operations continue at full scale. The Indian Army’s field hospital has treated over 1,250 people, performed five major emergency surgeries, and deployed three Bailey Bridges to help restore critical connectivity in the cyclone-affected areas. Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, visited the field hospital, interacting with the medical team and expressing gratitude to India for its swift response and medical support.
Earlier, Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed the arrival of the fourth C-17 aircraft carrying 55 tonnes of Bailey Bridge units, a JCB, and 13 personnel from the Engineer Corps as part of Operation Sagar Bandhu. These efforts aim to accelerate relief work and ensure vital infrastructure is restored for affected communities. (ANI)
