Ahmedabad (Gujarat), April 8 (ANI):
Top Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi took part in a prayer meet at Sabarmati Ashram on Tuesday, ahead of a crucial Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in Ahmedabad.
During the CWC and the AICC convention, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticized the BJP, accusing the ruling party of diverting attention from the country’s core issues through “communal division” and promoting “oligarchic monopoly” over national resources.
“Today, attention is being diverted from the basic issues of the country by doing communal division. On the other hand, oligarchic monopoly is on the path of controlling governance by capturing the resources of the country,” Kharge said in his address.
Kharge also claimed there’s an ongoing “conspiracy” to rewrite historical narratives, especially targeting national icons like Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“They are trying to project that Nehru and Patel were against each other, but the reality is far from it. They were two sides of the same coin,” he said, pointing to Patel’s 1937 speech at Gujarat Vidyapeeth, which praised Nehru during the provincial elections.
Kharge stressed that the Congress’ 140-year legacy of fighting for the country’s independence and democratic values is being undermined by those who, according to him, had no role in the freedom movement and now rely on false propaganda to discredit the party.
The Congress leadership’s visit to Sabarmati Ashram, a key site in India’s freedom struggle associated with Mahatma Gandhi, was symbolic—underscoring the party’s attempt to reclaim its ideological roots ahead of the general elections.
The day’s events signaled the party’s sharpened stance against the BJP’s narrative and its renewed focus on social unity, economic equity, and historical truth.
