New Delhi [India], May 22 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday conferred six Kirti Chakras—including four posthumously—and 33 Shaurya Chakras—including seven posthumously—during Phase I of the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025 held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
The honors were bestowed upon personnel from the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and State/Union Territory Police in recognition of their extraordinary courage, unwavering bravery, and selfless commitment to duty, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence.
“These gallantry awards were presented to acknowledge acts of valor performed during various counter-terror and counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the North-East region,” the ministry said. “Dreaded terrorists were neutralized or apprehended in these operations, and arms and ammunition were recovered.”
Among the awardees were Indian Navy officers who led successful anti-piracy missions, during which pirates surrendered and hostages were rescued. The officers also exhibited exceptional bravery in handling fire-fighting operations aboard a burning oil tanker.
Indian Air Force personnel were also honored for their heroism in perilous situations, including the recovery and safe maneuvering of aircraft away from civilian zones to prevent potential loss of life and property.
Additionally, CRPF officers were recognized for their courageous actions during operations in regions affected by Left-Wing Extremism. These operations resulted in the apprehension of Maoist insurgents and the recovery of weapons, the statement added.
The ceremony celebrated the indomitable spirit of India’s security forces, showcasing their readiness to face extreme risks in the line of duty and their unwavering commitment to national security. (ANI)
