New Delhi [India], April 23 (ANI): Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi on Wednesday paid tribute to Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who lost his life in the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. The solemn wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi before Lt Narwal’s mortal remains were sent to his hometown in Karnal, Haryana.
Lt Narwal, posted in Kochi, had been visiting Jammu and Kashmir on leave along with his wife when terrorists opened fire at tourists in the lush Baisaran valley on April 22. The young officer had recently gotten married, with his reception held just days ago on April 16.
“He was married just a few days back… Today we come to know that terrorists have killed him,” said a neighbor of Narwal, echoing the heartbreak felt by the entire community. His grandfather, Hawa Singh, emotionally urged the government to take firm action: “We request that the government give such people (attackers) strict punishment and end terrorism by any means necessary.”
In a heartfelt post on X, the Indian Navy expressed deep sorrow:
“Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, and all Personnel of the Indian Navy are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Lt Vinay Narwal, who fell to the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this moment of unimaginable grief.”
The Navy also extended condolences to other victims of the attack and wished for a swift recovery of the injured.
“The Indian Navy also stands in solemn solidarity with all others who lost their lives in this heinous act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families.”
This attack, which has shaken the nation, is one of the most serious in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. In response, massive security operations are underway across the region, with heightened surveillance and search missions ongoing to apprehend those responsible. The streets of Pahalgam, usually buzzing with tourists, now lie eerily silent. (ANI)
