Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 8 (ANI): Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) edged past Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 4 runs in a high-scoring thriller at Eden Gardens, powered by brilliant fifties from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh.
Chasing a mammoth target of 239, KKR began aggressively with Quinton de Kock (15) and Sunil Narine (30) adding 37 runs quickly. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane anchored the innings with a 35-ball 61 and built crucial partnerships with Narine and Venkatesh Iyer (44), bringing KKR close to the target.
However, quick wickets in the middle overs, including those of Rahane, Iyer, and Andre Russell, derailed the chase. Despite Rinku Singh’s late fireworks (38* off 15), KKR fell short at 234/7 in 20 overs.
For LSG, Akash Deep (2/55) and Shardul Thakur (2/52) were key with the ball, supported by Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi, and Ravi Bishnoi, who took one wicket each.
Earlier, after being put to bat, LSG openers Marsh (81 off 48) and Aiden Markram (47 off 28) gave a flying start with a 99-run stand. Pooran took over in the later overs, hammering an unbeaten 87 off just 36 balls, featuring 7 fours and 8 sixes. LSG posted a massive 238/3 in 20 overs.
KKR’s bowlers struggled, with Harshit Rana (2/51) and Russell (1/32) the only wicket-takers. Spinners Narine and Chakravarthy went wicketless.
With this win, LSG climbed to fourth on the points table with 6 points, while KKR slipped to sixth with 4 points. (ANI)
