Palanadu (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 15 (ANI): In a shocking incident, a man allegedly murdered his 19-year-old son and buried the body near a canal in Andhra Pradesh’s Palanadu district, police said on Tuesday. The crime came to light after the victim’s mother filed a missing person complaint.
The accused, identified as Venkateswarlu Naik, a resident of Errabalem village, reportedly killed his son, Bhukya Mangya Naik, from his first marriage, around ten days ago. Police recovered the partially buried body from an agricultural field near a canal and sent it for a postmortem examination.
“The accused killed his first wife Koteswari’s son and buried the body in an agricultural field. The postmortem is being conducted under the supervision of the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO). Venkateswarlu is now in police custody, and further details will emerge after the investigation,” a police official said.
The case took a violent turn when angry locals, outraged by the gruesome act, attacked the police team during their investigation. Inspector Suresh, who was leading the probe, sustained injuries in the scuffle. Police were forced to use lathi charge to disperse the agitated crowd.
Police said the suspected motive behind the killing was a long-standing property dispute and Venkateswarlu’s suspicions over his former wife’s character. The victim’s mother, Koteswari, alleged that her ex-husband had previously threatened to kill their son.
Speaking to the police, Koteswari said, “We got married in 2006 and had two children. He killed one of our sons, suspecting my character. Later, we separated, and I was trying to protect my elder son. Venkateswarlu married another woman after our separation and had two more sons. He had warned me earlier that he would kill my son over property disputes. He has a history of harming his own family members. Now he has killed my son, too. I demand justice.”
Police confirmed that Venkateswarlu has a criminal background. The investigation into the murder and his past record is ongoing.
