Imphal (Manipur) [India], April 5 (ANI): In a series of coordinated operations, security forces in Manipur have recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition and arrested multiple individuals affiliated with militant groups, according to an official press release.
During intensive search operations and area domination efforts in the fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts, security personnel uncovered weapons including SLR rifles, carbines, and live ammunition in the Laisoi hill area under Keibul Lamjao Police Station in Bishnupur district.
In a separate operation, two cadres of the proscribed group UNLF(P) — identified as Khundrakpam Rakesh Singh alias Thomba and Khundrakpam Charles — were arrested for their involvement in the abduction of Laitonjam Dilip Singh in Imphal West District. The abductee was safely rescued, and the arrests were made at a residence in the Nambol Phoijing area of Bishnupur district.
Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, security forces also nabbed two active KCP (PWG) militants — Ahongsangbam Naobi Singh and Maibam Tomba Singh alias Loya — who were allegedly involved in extortion activities in the Khongjom area. Arms, ammunition, and mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
To maintain law and order and ensure the smooth transport of essentials, security personnel facilitated the movement of 308 and 179 vehicles along National Highways 2 and 37 respectively, deploying strict measures in sensitive areas and providing convoys in vulnerable stretches.
Authorities installed 113 checkpoints (Nakas) across various districts and conducted verification drives, although no violations were reported during the operations.
Officials urged the public not to fall for rumours or misleading videos circulating on social media and warned that fake or inflammatory posts could lead to legal consequences. They also appealed to citizens to return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest police station or security post. (ANI)
