The Ministry of Defence confirmed the operations were intelligence-driven and yielded significant successes in apprehending militants and recovering arms.
The week-long joint operations led to the arrest of 13 insurgent cadres from various militant outfits operating in both the hill and valley regions of the state. A considerable cache of arms and war-like stores was recovered, underscoring the scale and precision of the missions.
On May 19, security forces conducted a raid in the Phayeng area of Imphal West district. The operation led to the recovery of one 7.62 mm Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), one .303 rifle, three 9mm pistols, various types of ammunition, and military-grade equipment.
Acting on further intelligence, security personnel carried out a subsequent operation on May 20 in the Pholjang-Tingkhai village area of Kangpokpi district. This effort uncovered a large haul of 14 weapons, which included one SLR, one double-barrel breach-loading shotgun, two bolt-action rifles, five improvised mortars, and four pull mechanism rifles. A stockpile of ammunition and associated equipment was also seized.
Another operation conducted on May 24 in the Marenmai area of Senapati district by Assam Rifles led to the recovery of four additional weapons, including three bolt-action single-barrel rifles and an improvised mortar locally known as a “Pompi.”
According to an official statement, the apprehended militants and the seized materials have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and appropriate legal proceedings.
The Defence PRO emphasized that these coordinated operations reflect the steadfast commitment of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies to uphold peace and stability in Manipur.
In a separate development on May 24, 2025, security forces arrested two active cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and one member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (Apunba) group.
