
New Delhi, May 13: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a cadre of the militant Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) in connection with a murder and abduction case related to the ethnic clashes in Manipur in 2023.
Waikhom Rohit Singh, hailing from Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak in Thoubal district, was apprehended by an NIA team for his role in the conspiracy and execution of the crime. Singh is currently in judicial custody after completing his remand with the agency.
The incident dates back to November 2023 when a CRPF team on naka duty in Kangchup Chingkhong area of Imphal West district intercepted a Bolero vehicle. The vehicle was found carrying five individuals from one of the two main communities involved in the ethnic violence. A large mob, allegedly from the rival community, surrounded the vehicle and forcibly abducted four of the individuals, while one managed to escape. The bodies of three of the abducted individuals were recovered later.
The NIA took over the case in February 2024, following directions from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, and the investigation is ongoing.
