Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 11 (ANI): Experiencing the sacred connection with the Holy Ganga, Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam witnessed the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi on Thursday, underscoring the enduring cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Mauritius.
MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the significance of the visit on X, stating, “Experiencing the sacred connect with the Holy Ganga. PM @Ramgoolam_Dr of Mauritius witnessed Ganga Aarti at Varanasi today. This spiritual experience symbolises the timeless bonds of faith and tradition that bind India and Mauritius.”
The spiritual experience coincided with official engagements, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral discussions with his Mauritian counterpart. Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met PM Ramgoolam in Varanasi, where they reviewed the multifaceted partnership and reaffirmed commitment to strengthening the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership, anchored in shared history, culture, and people-to-people ties.
PM Ramgoolam, on his first overseas bilateral visit to India in his current term (September 9–16), was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour in Kashi by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel. The leaders warmly greeted each other, reflecting the bonhomie and strength of India-Mauritius relations.
During the bilateral discussions, the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of cooperation, focusing on development partnership and capacity building. They also explored opportunities for collaboration in health, education, science and technology, energy, infrastructure, and emerging domains such as renewable energy, digital public infrastructure, and the blue economy.
The visit builds upon the positive momentum generated by PM Modi’s State Visit to Mauritius in March 2025, during which the bilateral relationship was elevated to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’. As a valued partner and close maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius plays a key role in India’s MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region) Vision and the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. The deepening cooperation between the two countries carries significance not only for the prosperity of their peoples but also for the collective aspirations of the Global South. (ANI)
