New York [US], November 5 (ANI): New York State Senator John C. Liu hailed Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani’s historic win on Tuesday (local time), calling it a defining moment for the city and its people. Liu praised Mamdani as a leader who genuinely understands the challenges faced by everyday New Yorkers.
Speaking to ANI, Liu said, “It’s a beautiful night for New York City, for democracy itself. Here in New York, we have elected a Mayor who truly understands what all New Yorkers have to go through on a daily basis.”
Supporters of Mamdani gathered at Brooklyn Paramount in New York City, where chants of his name filled the air as they celebrated his victory.
Rohit Bhardwaj, a supporter of Mamdani, expressed optimism about the city’s future. “Super excited to be here at Zohran’s HQ. I voted for him a few days ago. He is a highly progressive candidate, extremely hopeful for New York and the city’s future. He has got everybody on board — especially the South Asian, Hispanic, and Black communities. The working class is with him. I think New York is about to become more affordable. It’s super great to see a South Asian Mayor being elected. The fact that he speaks Hindi and Urdu makes it even better. Looking forward to the next four years with Zohran,” Bhardwaj said.
Another supporter shared that Mamdani’s win symbolised unity across faiths and backgrounds, saying that as a Jewish supporter of a Muslim Mayor, he hoped such solidarity could serve as a model for peace elsewhere, including in Palestine.
New York City’s newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani, celebrated his groundbreaking victory by highlighting the city’s diverse roots and expressing pride in his immigrant journey, having moved to New York from Uganda with his family at the age of seven. (ANI)
