New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who led an all-party parliamentary delegation to the United States, described their meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance as “remarkable.” Speaking to reporters, Tharoor said the Indian delegation had “a good conversation” and felt they “could not have had a better meeting.”
The delegation met Vice President Vance during their visit to the U.S. last week. Reflecting on the engagement, Tharoor said, “JD Vance, I must say, it was a remarkable meeting. He gave us a good 20-25 minutes. It was a busy day—they had just concluded a one-and-a-half-hour phone call with the Chinese President, and they were about to meet the German Chancellor. We were right in between. But we had a very good conversation.”
He continued, “I can’t say how good it was without revealing details that would not be appropriate to share. But again, we felt we could not have had a better meeting. We were able to make every single one of the points we wanted to make. I spoke for the delegation, and we received exactly the kind of feedback we would have wanted. So I think we left very happy.”
Tharoor made these remarks after returning to India following the delegation’s visit to the U.S., Guyana, Panama, Colombia, and Brazil.
The all-party delegation, led by Tharoor, included Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), GM Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejasvi Surya (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), former Indian Ambassador to the U.S. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora.
The group was one of seven delegations formed by the Indian government to conduct a global outreach initiative. Their mission included promoting India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and discussing Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, which resulted in 26 fatalities and multiple injuries. As part of the operation, Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
The Indian military also responded forcefully to subsequent Pakistani aggression by targeting its airbases. A cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was agreed upon on May 10.
