Guwahati (Assam) [India], April 30 (ANI): In a joint operation conducted by the Assam Rifles and Assam Police, three militants from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) were killed following a fierce gun battle in the Dima Hasao district on Tuesday. Authorities also recovered three AK series rifles and two pistols from the militants’ possession.
According to Rajib Saikia, the CPRO of Assam Police, the operation was launched after information was received about armed militants in the area of Hera Kilo-Nriachibunglow-N.KUbin-Borochanam-P.Kubin-Michidui-Doering-Chaikam under the Haflong Police Station. After 60 hours of searching, security forces encountered the armed militants near the area between N Kubin and Hera Kilo. The militants fired upon the security forces, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire,” Saikia said.
Following the clash, the search teams discovered the bodies of the three militants along with the weapons. They are believed to have belonged to a faction of the NSCN.
Earlier on the same day, Assam police had also seized 20,000 Yaba tablets and 114 grams of heroin worth approximately Rs 6.7 crore in Cachar district. The police also apprehended two drug peddlers during the operation.
