Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], May 24 (ANI): The state of Uttarakhand has recorded a significant milestone in mining revenue, surpassing ₹1,100 crore in the financial year 2024–25 under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister following a departmental review meeting held earlier today.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), this unprecedented achievement is being hailed as a powerful rebuttal to critics who questioned the feasibility of maintaining transparency and integrity in the mining sector. The CMO stated that the state’s mining performance is not only economically significant but also serves as a symbol of political will, administrative transparency, and decisive governance in public interest.
Officials noted that a dramatic transformation has occurred in Uttarakhand’s approach to both politics and administration—a shift described as a “policy revolution.” Years of entrenched corruption, middlemen, illegal mining mafias, and political patronage plagued the sector. However, the state government asserts that these practices have been systematically dismantled under CM Dhami’s leadership.
“The Chief Minister has taken historic steps to curb and eliminate mining scams, brokers, and the mafia network. What was once a sector marred by corruption has now emerged as a model of e-auctions, modern surveillance systems, and rule-based operations,” the statement from the state government read.
Historically, mining revenue in Uttarakhand struggled to exceed ₹300–₹335 crore annually. According to the government, not only was there minimal action against illegal mining, but such activities were often shielded by vested interests. In contrast, the Dhami-led administration has implemented a robust and technology-driven monitoring framework that has contributed to a threefold revenue surge.
Uttarakhand’s reformed mining model has garnered national attention, with several states reportedly studying its methods to replicate the success. The Dhami government emphasized that revenue generation was achieved without compromising the state’s environmental and cultural integrity.
Efforts were made to align mining operations with scientific principles, respect for natural boundaries, and active local participation. “This achievement reflects a new vision for India—one where good policy and honest governance can drive sustainable development,” the CMO concluded.
