
New Delhi [India], April 5 (ANI): On Ram Navami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tamil Nadu and launch a series of transformative infrastructure projects worth over ₹8,300 crore, aimed at boosting connectivity and development in the region. His itinerary includes inaugurating the new Pamban Rail Bridge, a historic engineering marvel, and laying foundation stones for several critical highway projects.

🚆 Inauguration of New Pamban Rail Bridge
- India’s first vertical lift sea bridge, linking Rameswaram to the mainland.
- Cost: Over ₹700 crore
- Length: 2.08 km with 99 spans and a 72.5m vertical lift span that rises 17 metres to allow ship movement.
- Built with stainless steel reinforcements, polysiloxane coating, and fully welded joints for enhanced durability in marine environments.
- Designed to handle dual rail tracks for future capacity.
PM Modi will also flag off a new Rameswaram–Tambaram (Chennai) train and a ship from the adjacent road bridge, showcasing the integrated functionality of the multi-modal infrastructure.

- Cholapuram – Thanjavur (48 km) on NH-36
These roadways will:
- Enhance access to pilgrimage centers, tourist spots, medical institutions, and ports
- Empower local farmers and small industries with better market connectivity
- Boost regional trade, especially in sectors like leather and small-scale manufacturing
🌉 Cultural and Strategic Significance:
- The new Pamban Bridge carries deep religious significance as Ram Setu is believed to have originated from nearby Dhanushkodi in the Ramayana.
- The bridge is expected to become both a functional transportation link and a tourist landmark, contributing to local development and heritage tourism.
