Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 15 (ANI): The relentless monsoon rains have wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh, claiming 106 lives and causing widespread destruction between June 20 and July 15, 2025, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reported on Tuesday.
According to the SDMA’s cumulative damage report, 62 of the deaths were directly linked to rain-induced calamities, including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution, and falls. The remaining 44 fatalities were attributed to road accidents during the same period.
The breakdown of rain-related deaths revealed 15 killed in cloudburst incidents, 12 from falls (from trees or rocks), 11 due to drowning, eight in flash floods, five each from electrocution and snake bites, and one each in a landslide and a fire.
Road accidents have also surged amid the treacherous weather and slippery roads, with 44 fatalities reported across the state. Among the worst-affected districts were Kullu, which recorded seven road deaths, Kinnaur with five, and Mandi with four.
In addition to the tragic loss of lives, the monsoon has left a trail of destruction across property and infrastructure. The SDMA reported that more than 293 pucca (permanent) houses and 91 kaccha (temporary) houses were completely destroyed. Nearly 850 hectares of agricultural land have been damaged, and losses to public property — including roads, water supply systems, power lines, and health and education facilities — have been estimated at over ₹81 crore.
Rescue and relief operations by the SDMA, local administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and emergency services continue round the clock in affected regions. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid risky areas, and adhere to safety advisories as heavy rainfall is forecast to persist in parts of the state.
