Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 14 (ANI): The Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken suo moto action against state cabinet minister Kunwar Vijay Shah over his objectionable remark on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. The court directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to lodge an immediate FIR against the minister by Wednesday evening.
A division bench comprising Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Anuradha Shukla heard the matter and ordered that an FIR be registered against Minister Vijay Shah for offences under Sections 152, 196(1)(b), and 197(1)(c) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sahita (BNS). The court warned that failure to register the FIR by the specified time could result in contempt proceedings against the state DGP.
In its observation, the court stated that the minister’s statement prima facie had the potential to incite disharmony and foster feelings of enmity, hatred, or ill will between individuals of the Muslim faith and others who do not belong to the same religion. Based on these observations, the court directed the DGP to act immediately.
The court also instructed the Advocate General’s Office to promptly forward the order to the DGP’s office to ensure compliance. The next hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, with the case listed at the top of the agenda. (ANI)
