
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 9 (ANI): Mumbai Customs Zone-III at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI) has foiled a wildlife smuggling attempt, arresting one passenger.
According to officials, Customs officers recovered Albino Red-eared Slider turtles, Marmosets, and a Kinkajou from a passenger arriving from Bangkok.
“Mumbai Customs Zone-III officers at CSMI Airport foiled a wildlife smuggling attempt on August 8, 2025. The officers recovered Albino Red-eared Slider turtles, Marmosets, and Kinkajou from one passenger returning from Bangkok. The passenger has been arrested,” Mumbai Customs stated.
This comes shortly after recent major narcotics seizures at the same airport. On August 3, Mumbai Customs Zone-III seized 14.738 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana valued at approximately ₹14.73 crore, leading to the arrest of one passenger.
Between July 29 and 30, officers also seized 8.012 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana worth about ₹8 crore in four separate cases, arresting four passengers.
In one of those incidents, Customs officers intercepted three passengers arriving from Bangkok on flight VZ760. Upon inspecting their baggage, officials found 1.990 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana concealed in vacuum-sealed plastic packets inside trolley bags. The contraband’s market value was estimated at ₹2 crore.
All arrests were made under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. (ANI)
