Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 20 (ANI): Mumbai Monorail services resumed on Wednesday following a disruption caused by a train breakdown between Bhakti Park and Chembur stations near Mysore Colony on Tuesday evening, which left around 582 passengers stranded.
The breakdown, attributed to a power supply failure due to overcrowding, occurred around 6:30 PM. A large-scale rescue operation was launched by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), fire department personnel, and police, lasting over three-and-a-half hours.
Firefighters used snorkel vehicles to evacuate passengers, while BEST buses transported them to nearby railway stations. All 582 passengers were safely rescued. Twenty-three individuals received on-site treatment for suffocation, and two were taken to Sion Hospital for OPD care and later discharged.
Chief Fire Officer Ravindra Ambulgekar stated, “Some people had problems of suffocation and breathing issues, but all are safe. Once they were taken out, everything was normal. Everyone has been rescued safely.”
Additional CP (East Region) Mahesh Patil added, “Police, fire brigade, and BMC staff immediately started the rescue operation. All passengers have been rescued safely. Approximately 585 people have been rescued successfully. The operation has been completed with no injuries or casualties reported.” (ANI)
