Washington DC [US], April 1 (ANI): Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk shared images of Earth’s polar regions taken by SpaceX’s Dragon capsule, which launched into space just a day ago. Musk celebrated the achievement, stating, “This is the first time humans have been in orbit around the poles of Earth!”
On March 31, SpaceX successfully launched the private astronaut mission “Fram2” from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The mission is billed as “the first crewed spaceflight ever to orbit Earth over the planet’s poles.”
The Fram2 mission is commanded by Chinese-born cryptocurrency billionaire Chun Wang, alongside three other crew members: vehicle commander Jannicke Mikkelsen from Norway, pilot Rabea Rogge from Germany, and Australian Eric Phillips, who serves as Fram2’s medical officer and mission specialist. Notably, none of the four private astronauts have been to space before.
The mission is expected to last between three to five days. The crew will perform 22 scientific experiments during the mission, including pioneering experiments like growing mushrooms in space for the first time and conducting X-rays of the human body in orbit, marking another unprecedented feat.
Following the mission, the crew is expected to return to Earth with a splashdown at sea. According to SpaceX, “After safely returning to Earth, the crew plans to exit from the Dragon spacecraft without additional medical and operational assistance, helping researchers characterize the ability of astronauts to perform unassisted functional tasks after short and long durations in space.” (ANI)
