Washington, D.C. [US], June 5 (ANI):
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has launched a fresh and scathing attack on U.S. President Donald Trump’s cornerstone spending legislation, urging Americans to pressure Congress to “KILL the BILL.” This outburst comes just days after Musk abruptly stepped down from his role within the Trump administration.
Musk, who served for 130 days as a “special government employee” heading the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was tasked with identifying and eliminating government waste. Since resigning last week, he has emerged as one of the administration’s most outspoken critics.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk warned, “America is in the fast lane to debt slavery,” and called for a complete overhaul of the spending proposal. “A new spending bill should be drafted that doesn’t massively grow the deficit and increase the debt ceiling by 5 TRILLION DOLLARS,” he declared.
Doubling down, Musk implored Americans to take action. “Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL,” he urged in one post. In another, he blasted the bill as “the largest increase in the debt ceiling in US history! It is the Debt Slavery Bill.”
The legislation in question—hailed by Trump as a “big, beautiful bill”—includes sweeping tax cuts and a significant boost in military spending. It narrowly passed the House of Representatives last month, with three Republicans joining a unified Democratic bloc in opposition.
Musk’s blistering criticism threatens to upend Republican unity ahead of critical midterm elections. He has pledged to campaign against lawmakers who supported the bill, warning, “I will fire all the politicians who betrayed the American people.” Given Musk’s substantial financial backing of several Republican campaigns, his rebellion poses serious risks to incumbents facing tough primary races and jeopardizes the party’s chances of maintaining control of Congress.
The White House has responded with cautious diplomacy. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “President Trump is already aware of Mr. Musk’s position. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”
Trump aims to finalize the legislation by July 4, a deadline that aligns with a proposed $4 trillion expansion of the U.S. borrowing limit. The Treasury Department has warned that failure to enact the increase by August could result in an unprecedented sovereign default for the United States. (ANI)
