Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 8 (ANI): Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Muhammad Yunus, has expressed heartfelt appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Eid al-Adha greetings, affirming that mutual respect and understanding will continue to shape the cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
In a letter addressed to PM Modi on June 6, Yunus conveyed his gratitude for the Prime Minister’s thoughtful message, which he said reflected the shared values between India and Bangladesh. He further extended warm Eid wishes to Modi and the people of India.
“I deeply appreciate your thoughtful message, kind greetings, and warm wishes on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, which reflects the shared values between our two countries. I also would like to convey my warmest greetings to you, and through you, to the people of India on this auspicious occasion,” Yunus wrote.
Sharing both his letter and Modi’s on platform X, Yunus described Eid al-Adha as a moment of reflection that fosters unity, generosity, and a shared sense of purpose among communities. “Eid-ul-Azha is a time of reflection, which brings communities together in the spirit of festivity, sacrifice, generosity and unity, and inspires us all to work together for the greater benefits of the people across the world,” he wrote. “I am confident that the spirit of mutual respect and understanding will continue to guide our nations to work together for the well-being of our peoples.”
PM Modi had earlier extended Eid greetings on June 4, emphasizing that Eid al-Adha is an integral part of India’s diverse cultural heritage and celebrated widely across the nation with joy, compassion, and brotherhood.
In his message, Modi stated, “On behalf of the people and the Government of India, I convey warm greetings to you and the people of Bangladesh on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha. This holy festival is an integral part of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India and is celebrated with immense joy and fervour by millions of people of Islamic faith across the country. It reminds us of the timeless values of sacrifice, compassion, and brotherhood, which are essential in building a peaceful and inclusive world.”
The festival of Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It is marked by special prayers, acts of charity, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, symbolizing the virtues of empathy, selflessness, and unity.
Earlier in April, PM Modi met Chief Advisor Yunus on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. During the meeting, he reiterated India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful, and inclusive Bangladesh. He also raised India’s concerns over the safety and security of minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh and urged for thorough investigations into cases of atrocities committed against them.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi emphasized the people-centric nature of India-Bangladesh ties, noting that bilateral cooperation continues to deliver tangible benefits to both populations. He also stressed the importance of avoiding divisive rhetoric, enforcing strict border laws, and ensuring nighttime border security to maintain stability.
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to resolving all mutual issues with Bangladesh through dialogue and constructive engagement, with the aim of preserving the enduring and beneficial relationship between the two countries. (ANI)
