Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 2 (ANI): A tragic incident occurred at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, where a Nepali student was found dead inside her hostel room on Thursday evening. The student, enrolled in her first year of the B.Tech Computer Science program, was reportedly discovered in a hanging position.
According to police officials, they received information about the alleged suicide and immediately responded to the scene. “We were informed today about the death of a girl from Nepal, who died by suicide at the KIIT University hostel. We arrived at the site and began investigating the matter. A detailed investigation will be carried out. A scientific team has collected all necessary evidence. Her family has been informed, and the body has been sent to AIIMS for a post-mortem,” said Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh.
The Nepal Embassy has also been notified about the incident.
The Odisha government has expressed its condolences over the girl’s death, assuring that necessary actions would be taken. “We received information about the alleged suicide of a Nepali student studying in her first year of B.Tech Computer Science at KIIT University around 8:10 pm today. The university authorities immediately informed the girl’s parents. In this time of sorrow, the State Government offers its deepest condolences and extends support to the grieving family,” said the Information and Public Relations Department.
The department further stated, “Upon receiving the information, senior officers, including the Commissioner of Police and Revenue Divisional Commissioner, visited the site to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The forensic team is currently gathering evidence.”
This incident follows a similar case earlier this year, on February 16, when another Nepali student was found dead at the same university hostel. The case sparked protests among Nepalese students, who alleged harassment by a fellow student. The accused was arrested on February 17 following the protests.
The investigation into this latest incident continues, with authorities working to uncover the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
