Tel Aviv [Israel], November 30 (ANI): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally requested a pardon from President Isaac Herzog amid ongoing corruption cases, according to a report by Al Jazeera citing a statement released Sunday by the president’s office.
President Herzog’s office acknowledged receiving the request and said it will be reviewed responsibly. The pardon process includes consultation with the Justice Ministry and an assessment of the public interest.
“The Office of the President is aware that this is an extraordinary request which carries with it significant implications. After receiving all of the relevant opinions, the President will responsibly and sincerely consider the request,” Herzog’s office said.
The development comes as Netanyahu continues to fight multiple legal cases and follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for Herzog to pardon the Israeli leader, describing the case as “unjustified.”
Netanyahu is facing three corruption cases filed in 2019, involving allegations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. He maintains his innocence, asserting that the charges are politically motivated.
Further details are awaited. (ANI)
