New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, Moti Ram Jat, for allegedly engaging in espionage and leaking sensitive national security information to Pakistani Intelligence Officers (PIOs). The arrest highlights a serious breach in internal security, involving the deliberate sharing of classified data with foreign operatives.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the NIA stated that Jat had been involved in espionage since 2023 and had received funds from PIOs through various intermediaries. He was apprehended in Delhi and produced before the Special Court at Patiala House, which remanded him to NIA custody until June 6 for further interrogation.
“The National Investigation Agency has arrested a CRPF personnel for sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence officers,” the release confirmed. “The accused, Moti Ram Jat, had been receiving funds through multiple conduits in exchange for classified information.”
In a related development, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a multipurpose health worker, Sahdev Singh Gohil, from the Kachchh district for allegedly sharing confidential data pertaining to the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Navy with a Pakistani operative.
Gujarat ATS Superintendent of Police K. Siddharth revealed that Gohil was contacted in mid-2023 via WhatsApp by a woman identifying herself as Aditi Bharadwaj, later confirmed to be a Pakistani agent. During their communication, Bharadwaj persuaded Gohil to send photos and videos of BSF and Indian Navy sites that were under construction or newly completed.
“We had information that he had been sharing information related to the BSF and Indian Navy with a Pakistani agent,” SP Siddharth said. “He began sharing visuals through WhatsApp and received financial incentives for his cooperation.”
Gohil was summoned for preliminary questioning on May 1 and later taken into custody after investigators confirmed the transmission of sensitive materials spanning from 2023 into 2025.
The two espionage cases, though separate, point to a concerning pattern of infiltration attempts by foreign intelligence operatives. Authorities continue to probe the extent of the data leak and whether other individuals may have been involved. Both the NIA and Gujarat ATS emphasized that national security remains a top priority and assured strict action against those compromising it. (ANI)
