Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 15 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three individuals in connection with the 2024 grenade attack on a police post in Punjab’s SBS Nagar district, which investigators say is part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror outfit.
According to an official statement released Sunday, the NIA has chargesheeted Yugpreet Singh, alias Yuvi Nihung, Jaskarabn Singh, alias Shah, and Harjot Singh, alias Jot Hundal, under multiple provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and other related laws.
The agency has also launched a probe into the terror outfit’s chief, Ranjit Singh Neeta, who is designated as an Individual Terrorist, along with other KZF operatives including Jagjit Singh Lahri, alias Jagga, who is currently based in the UK, and other unidentified conspirators.
“NIA has found that Jagga recruited Yugpreet Singh through an acquaintance in the UK. Along with other KZF terrorists and operatives, Jagga radicalised Yugpreet and coordinated with him via encrypted messaging applications. Jagga also transferred over Rs 4.36 lakh in terror funds to Yugpreet through a complex network involving Canada-based entities, who have also been identified and questioned,” the agency stated.
According to the investigation, Yugpreet went on to recruit the other two accused, and together they executed the grenade attack on the police post during the night of December 1–2, 2024.
In a related development, the NIA conducted searches on June 12 at 15 locations connected to the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror group across Punjab and Haryana. These locations included Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, and Rupnagar in Punjab, as well as Sirsa in Haryana. The searches were part of the investigation into a grenade attack in January 2025 at a police post in Amritsar district.
During the raids, the NIA recovered a range of incriminating evidence, including mobile phones, digital devices, and documents, which are currently under scrutiny to uncover further details of the BKI terror network.
The NIA, which took over the SBS Nagar case in April 2025 and re-registered it as RC-09/2025/NIA/DLI, also searched premises linked to accused and suspects associated with individuals such as Mandeep and Sarwan Singh, alias Bhola, who is currently based in the USA, and his brother Mandeep Singh, alias Makka.
