New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet against Rafeek M S, identified as the 64th accused in the murder case of RSS worker Sreenivasan. The chargesheet was submitted before the NIA Special Court in Ernakulam, Kerala, under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act).
Sreenivasan, a former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, was brutally hacked to death in Kerala’s Palakkad district on April 16, 2022. His murder came just a day after the killing of Popular Front of India (PFI) member Subair, who was attacked in front of his father in Elappully, also in Palakkad. Authorities have linked Sreenivasan’s killing to a retaliatory act by members of the now-banned PFI.
Earlier in 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) imposed a five-year ban on the PFI under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, branding it and its affiliated organizations as “unlawful associations.” The ban extends to its fronts and affiliates, including Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation, and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.
In a February 2023 interview with ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the government acted swiftly and decisively to ban the PFI, citing the organization’s role in spreading radical ideologies and promoting religious extremism.
“We have banned PFI successfully. PFI promoted radicalism and religious bigotry. They were, in a way, trying to prepare raw materials for terrorism. So many documents have been found which show that their activities were not good for the country’s unity and integrity,” Shah said.
The murder case of Sreenivasan has drawn significant attention due to its communal implications and the organized nature of the attack. The NIA’s investigation has led to multiple arrests and charge sheets, revealing a wider conspiracy involving the now-outlawed organization.
The case remains under close watch as the court proceedings continue. (ANI)
