New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday carried out extensive searches at 18 locations across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in connection with its probe into the grenade attack at the residence of former Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar. The attack has been linked to the proscribed terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
According to an official release, the NIA seized several incriminating items, including mobile phones, digital devices, and documents, during the raids. The searches were conducted at the premises of individuals allegedly connected with BKI operative Kulbir Sidhu, US-based gangster Manish alias Kaka Rana, and other associates based in India and abroad.
Kulbir Sidhu, a native of Yamunanagar in Haryana, is reportedly based in Germany and is considered a close aide of Wadhawa Singh Babbar, the Pakistan-based chief of BKI and a designated terrorist. Sidhu is also named as an accused in NIA case RC-06/2024/NIA/DLI, which pertains to the murder of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in Nangal, Punjab, in April 2024.
The grenade attack at Kalia’s Jalandhar residence occurred on the night of April 7 and was allegedly carried out by Saidul Ameen, who was arrested by Punjab Police on April 12. The attack is one of a series of violent incidents reportedly orchestrated by BKI operatives under the direction of foreign-based handlers of the banned terrorist group.
In Punjab, raids were conducted in the districts of Hoshiarpur, SBS Nagar, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Mansa. In Haryana, the NIA searched locations in Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Karnal, and Ambala. Additionally, raids were carried out in Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh.
The NIA formally took over the probe from state authorities on April 12, and the investigation is currently being pursued under case number 11/2025/NIA/DLI. (ANI)
