New Delhi [India], May 12 (ANI): Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai on Monday commended India’s multi-layered air defence system, asserting that there was no possibility of Pakistan breaching it and targeting Indian airfields or logistical installations.
Addressing a press briefing, Lt Gen Ghai highlighted the effective combination of Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems, Air Defence Weapons, and electronic warfare systems in India’s military arsenal. “Our inventory contains a unique mix of Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems, Air Defence Weapons, and electronic warfare tools. This is why, when the Pakistan Air Force attacked our airfields and logistic installations on May 9 and 10, they failed to breach this robust air defence grid,” Lt Gen Ghai explained.
He detailed the layers of defence in place, stating, “We have several layers, counters, unmanned aerial systems, shoulder-fired weapons, vintage air defence systems, and, ultimately, modern air defence weapons. There was no chance that Pakistan could’ve broken through our multi-layered defence system to target our airfields or logistical installations.”
Lt Gen Ghai compared the multi-layered defence system to the legendary Australian bowling duo of Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson, explaining that, much like their overwhelming combination of skill, India’s layered defence system successfully countered the attacks. “Targeting our airfields and logistics is incredibly difficult. To put it in perspective, I think of a proverb from the 1970s during the Ashes series between Australia and England, where two Australian bowlers devastated England’s batting lineup—’Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if Thommo don’t get ya, Lillee must.’ The layers of our defence system work in a similar way. Even if one layer fails, another will intercept,” he said.
He also lauded the contributions of the Border Security Force (BSF) in repelling the Pakistan attack, saying, “I want to praise the BSF. Every soldier played a critical role in our mission. Their counter-unmanned systems were part of the multi-tiered defence grid.”
Lt Gen Ghai also shared an inspirational proverb, “Jab Hausle Buland ho tab Manzile bhi Kadam Chumti Hai,” emphasizing the determination and resilience of the forces.
The briefing highlighted the outcomes of Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists. The operation struck multiple terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists and targeting 11 airbases in Pakistan, causing significant damage to their military capabilities. The operation was carried out with calibrated restraint to minimize civilian casualties.
During the press briefing, senior Indian Armed Forces commanders made a stern warning to Pakistan, stating, “If Pakistan dares to take any action this time, they know what we are going to do.”
