New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep condolences for those affected by the cloudburst in Dharali, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, and assured that all possible efforts are being made to provide relief. He spoke with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to gather detailed information about the situation and ongoing rescue operations.
“I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I pray for the well-being of all the victims. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami and obtained information about the situation,” the Prime Minister posted on X. “Under the supervision of the state government, relief and rescue teams are engaged in every possible effort. No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people,” he added.
The region experienced further distress on Tuesday when another cloudburst struck the Sukhi Top area, following the devastating event in Dharali. Authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage, casualties, and injuries.
Chief Minister Dhami, in a post on X, said he briefed the Prime Minister about the relief and rescue efforts. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi obtained information over the phone regarding the unfortunate cloudburst incident in Dharali (Uttarkashi). During this, he was informed about the relief and rescue operations being conducted by the state government, SDRF, army, and other rescue teams. Prime Minister assured all possible assistance from the central government,” he stated in Hindi.
The Chief Minister is currently returning from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, due to the severity of the situation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with CM Dhami and directed the immediate deployment of rescue teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the affected regions. A total of 16 ITBP teams have reached the site to assist in the rescue operations.
Meanwhile, the Chamoli police reported that the Jyotirmath-Malari motor road in Saldhar has been washed away. Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to adhere strictly to issued safety guidelines as the situation continues to evolve. (ANI)
