Washington, D.C. [US], August 4 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that nuclear submarines have been deployed near Russia.
“They are in the region, yeah—where they have to be,” Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.
When asked whether there was anything Russia could do to avoid sanctions at this point, Trump responded, “Yeah, get a deal where people stop getting killed.”
He added that his approach to imposing tariffs was not about seeking leverage but ensuring fairness.
“I’m not looking for leverage—I’m looking for fairness. We want to see reciprocal [trade] wherever we can, and all I can say is this: our country will be taking in hundreds of billions of dollars.”
On Friday, Trump announced that he was ordering two U.S. Navy nuclear submarines to “appropriate regions” in response to remarks made by Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and current deputy chairman of its Security Council.
In what he described as an effort to be “prepared,” Trump posted on Truth Social that he had “ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”
Later that day, Trump said the submarines had been moved “closer to Russia,” according to CNN.
On Thursday, Trump said he intended to place new sanctions on Moscow and described Russia’s attacks on Ukraine as “disgusting.”
In an earlier message on social media, he stated that the Ukraine war “should have never happened.”
“This is Biden’s war, not ‘TRUMP’s.’ I’m just here to see if I can stop it!” he wrote.
The president did not specify what type of submarines were being deployed or their exact location. The Pentagon typically provides little information regarding submarine movements.
The U.S. Navy operates three classes of submarines—all of which are nuclear-powered—but only one class is equipped with nuclear weapons, CNN reported. (ANI)
